We're building a portrait of Los Angeles out of the people who actually live in it. One sitting at a time, from now until the summer of 2028.

In July 2028 a few million strangers land here. The archive closes the day before. Everything in it becomes one piece: a record of who was in this city when it happened, made by the people who were already here.

A lot of versions of Los Angeles are going to be broadcast that summer. This is the one we make ourselves. Consider it a welcome letter, written in faces.

Everyone also sits for one photograph. A single frame on a camera from 2001. One shot, no second look. That's the one that goes in the archive next to your number.

HOW IT WORKS

At Factory Nights hosted by Factory Settings all digital portraits are free. Portraits are available by private booking and will take place in Culver City at scheduled times.

Cinema camera, graded into the era. In your hands the 2 weeks later.

VHS · $100*
Shot to tape and captured off the deck before you leave. Tracking lines, bleeding color, everything the format does wrong, on purpose. Process Film Strips returned with a digital copy. In your hands a month later.

Super 8 · $250*
Real film, loaded in the room. Pure nostalgia; a physical copy of your reel, a digital version, and physical copies of your digicam photos. In your hands 6 weeks later.
